Yesterday we explored a directory of women physicians, today let's look at schools. Was your female ancestor an educator? Have you looked to see what school or teacher directories exist for that area? Don't forget to follow-up with histories of the school system and archival materials.
Internet Archive has a collection of Allen County Schools Directories. These directories provide names and addresses for principles and teachers in Allen County. Best of all they provide the researcher with some social history. Turn to the back of this 1928-1929 directory to see a list of rules and regulations for teachers.
Allen County Schools Directories on Internet Archive cover the years 1920 to 1957. You can see them here. An index for years 1897-1921 can also be found on the website.
