Women's History Month 2019: Church Directories

If you've been thinking as you read this month's posts that your ancestor was simply not a member of any group that would have had a directory, at least search for a church directory.

Church directories vary in information from providing just a name to including contact information and even photos.

Now the problem is, where do you find them? Well if they still exist you can find them in archival collections, housed in repositories that document that denomination's history, or even genealogical libraries like FamilySearch (The Catalog shows over 2,000 but not all of these will include listings of individuals) as well as digitized book websites. 

Also remember that some "church directories" are not for individual congregations and focuses instead on information about that domination.
