In this fourth week of Women's History Month, we are looking at books focusing on material culture that will help you better understand her life.
Title: Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns
Author: Barbara Brackman
Publisher: The Electric Quilt Company
Synopsis: An encyclopedia of quilt patterns and names. Please note my copy is an earlier version; this work is now in its 3rd edition. "This book is the perfect resource for identifying blocks and getting inspiration for your quilts! You’ll find line drawings and colored versions of 4,000+ blocks, plus their names and publishing information! Sewing patterns are not included."
Why You Need This Book: I thought we would take a look at one more encyclopedia for this month. Encyclopedias can be so beneficial to our research whether they are of people or objects. Have an ancestor's quilt? Want to know more about it? There are several must-have resources but this is one you might be interested in. It's not one you need every day but it's great to have (or have access to) when you do. Whether you need a quilt encyclopedia or not, my overall point in posting a few encyclopedias is to make sure that you consider the various types that exist as you do your research.
