These directories of the wealthy and prominent provide information including name, address, and memberships. Unmarried children can also be included with their parents' listings. So women might be listed as Mrs [his name], Mrs. [her first name and married surname], and Miss. In some cases a maiden name may be listed for a married woman.
Obviously, this isn't a directory listing every person. These are directories that exclude most of the population. But for those whose ancestors and family were financially well off, they can serve as a place to verify location in time.

Probably the most important thing to remember is that a "Blue Book" is not necessarily a social registry and not all social registries are called "Blue Books." So try various keywords in your search.
