I love finding interesting sources while searching via a keyword on digitized book websites. Case in point, the Nashville Social Directory (available on Hathi Trust).
Now, I know, you don't have any Nashville ancestors. Fair enough. But perusing this directory might provide you some ideas for what exists where your ancestor lived. Your ancestors were just poor farmers? I get it. But what I love about this book is that it just isn't a directory of the rich, it actually includes individual's names and information about membership organizations, some of which would have assisted a variety of women and may lead to records in an archival collection.
Let's take a look at a few pages, just to see what is possible.
Take a look at the great information provided about a few of the organizations highlighted.
This listing for National Society United States Daughters of 1812 has some great info about members and War of 1812 graves.
As you research, make sure to search by the name of the place your ancestor lived to discover unknown-to-you directories.
