School records. Typically they are a home source, but not always. There are a number of items that could be a "school record," so today, let's just discuss one that may not seem genealogically relevant, the student report card.

At the very least, a report card will have a name, location, year, grade, and class grades. Beyond that, you may also have teacher comments and parent or guardian signatures.
So what does that matter? Well, it's a record, like a census, that provides us everyone about a person's life in a specific place and time. But we may also learn more about the person's personality.
When you have access to a school report card, take time to document by asking:
- What school, teacher, and grade are listed on the report card?
- What comments are provided on the report card?
- Are the names of any other family members found on the card?
- What additional information about the school and the student is found on the card?
