Women's History Month 2022: The Family Tree Problem Solver

In this first week of Women's History Month, we are looking at genealogy methodology books for your reference library.

Title: The Family Tree Problem Solver

Author: Marsha Hoffman Rising

Publisher: Family Tree Books

Synopsis: Meant to help researchers with the brick walls, this book includes information on:

  • "Work-arounds for lost or destroyed records
  • Techniques for finding ancestors with common names
  • Ideas on how to find vital records before civil registration beings
  • Tips for finding individuals "missing" from the censuses
  • Methods for finding ancestors who lived before 1850
  • Strategies for analyzing your research problem and putting together a practical research plan"

Why You Need This Book: This is the book I tell researchers they must have. Yes, there are others I recommend but at least buy this one. Even if you get the first edition which you should be able to inexpensively. I have all 3 editions because I believe in this book so much.

Marsha was an outstanding researcher, and the queen of genealogical problem solving, and I am so grateful she was also my best friend. It was a joy working with her as her editor on the first edition of this book and writing the introduction for the second edition. It's hard to believe she's been gone for 12 years. Read more about her on her website and see her collections: http://www.marsharising.com/
